On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Massouda Bahham, participated in a high-level ministerial meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, entitled “Climate Challenges in Africa: Responding to its Specific Circumstances and Needs.” The meeting was held on the sidelines of the African Climate Week, organized in partnership between the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29).
During her speech, the Minister reaffirmed Mauritania’s commitment to supporting a resilient African continent capable of confronting the impacts of climate change. She highlighted her country’s experience in integrating the climate dimension into public policies, developing solar energy infrastructure, launching strategic partnerships in the field of green hydrogen, and undertaking efforts to restore degraded ecosystems.
The Minister stressed the need for rapid and equitable climate financing, calling on African countries to unite and raise a common voice in the preparations for the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30). On the sidelines of the event, the Minister held bilateral meetings with a number of regional and international officials to strengthen cooperation in the field of environment and climate.
