The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum announced the launch of a public-private partnership project aimed at improving the national electricity system through the construction of a new 60-megawatt renewable energy plant.
The project includes the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of integrated electricity generation facilities, including:
A 160-megawatt photovoltaic solar power plant,
A 60-megawatt wind power plant,
A 370-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system.
The project company will also finance and construct a high-voltage electricity connection line and a related substation. Ownership of these two facilities will transfer to the Mauritanian Electricity Company upon commencement of operation.
According to technical data, the project will ensure the production of at least 60 megawatts of solar and wind power between 9 am and 5 pm, in addition to providing the same capacity via the storage system for four hours daily.
The solar power plant and storage system are scheduled to begin operation in August 2026, while the wind power plant is expected to come online in March 2027.
